WWW.DUATS.COM or WWW.DUAT.COM is a leading resource for obtaining an Abbreviated, Standard or Outlook briefing, specifically for your desired route of flight. You may also file VFR and IFR Flight Plans for your proposed departure time and route of flight. You must register with at least a Student Pilot License and obtain a user name and password. Once registered, you can enter your own specific Pilot Information and Aircraft Data that will assist you obtaining accurate briefings for the type of aircraft you are flying. WWW.WEATHERMEISTER.COM is a quick and easy way to obtain current METARS at specific locations near your home airport or along your desired route of flight. The website is well designed and if you mouse over specific areas of the METAR you can obtain additional information, like crosswind components at the specific airport. Recently, the website owner began charging $$'s for the additional WX features of his web design. I have not explored this beyond the FREE information provided. This link will direct you to the FREE page, because I am cheap! The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration website is designed and maintained by the US Department of Commerce and provides excellent weather information for the entire country. It is a wealth of information and knowledge related to the "Big Picture" of weather. It is a great resource for weather charts and graphs. When you click on their logo above, you will be directed The National Weather Service portion of their website. WWW.WEATHER.COM WWW.ACCUWEATHER.COM WWW.WEATHERBUG.COM Listed above are some commercial WX sites that will assist you in taking a look a broad perspective of weather in the intended area of your flight. It is a good tool to use for general forecasting of weather along your route for long cross countries routes that may be planned a few days in advance. For local flights, these sites can give a general idea of winds, precipitation and temperatures. National Weather Service's Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) The National Weather Service's Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) has come out with another remarkably useful weather site for pilots. Designed specifically for emergency medical service helicopter pilots, this JAVA powered site offers quick and detailed graphic access to METARs, TAFs, IFR, VFR, Icing potential and prediction, radar, and numerous other weather products. |
